Celebration of Creativity Day in Great Village, N.S.

"IMAGES OF MY VILLAGE” CELEBRATION OF CREATIVITY DAY IN GREAT VILLAGE, 18 May 2013

On Saturday, 18 May 2013, the Elizabeth Bishop Society of Nova Scotia will host a “Celebration of Creativity Day” at the Great Village School gymnasium. The day will begin with morning workshops (9:30 to 11:30 a.m.) for Grades 3-6 and Grades 7-9 with award-winning illustrators and authors Susan Tooke and Richard Rudnicki (spaces are limited). Afternoon festivities kick off at 12:30 p.m. The Elizabeth Bishop Society of Nova Scotia will unveil a permanent banner for Great Village with artwork done by a local young artist and will launch a virtual website of art work by 200 young people in Colchester County (www.imagesofmyvillage.com). After celebratory cake and ice cream, Colchester County fitness instructor Celeste Chesal will get everyone dancing with “Music and Motion.” There will also be face painting with Halifax writer and artist Susan Kerslake. Susan Tooke and Richard Rudnicki will be in attendance with their books, which will be for sale. They will do a book signing.

Banner and virtual exhibition background:
In the fall of 2012, the EBSNS requested all students in Colchester County to create and submit an “Image of My Village” to be part of a virtual exhibition. Approximately 200 images were submitted. The EBSNS, in partnership with Nathan McDonald and Riley MacDonald, two media arts students at the Nova Scotia Community College, Truro Campus, through their Capstone programme, created a virtual exhibition of all submissions (www.imagesofmyvillage.com). The EBSNS assembled a panel of judges from the community to select one image, from a young person directly connected to Great Village, to be a permanent banner for Great Village.

You can also check out this information and learn more about the EBSNS on the EBSNS website: www.elizabethbishopns.org

This Celebration Day is part of the Elizabeth Bishop Centenary Legacy programme of the Elizabeth Bishop Society of Nova Scotia.

“Walking With EB” – Help support an exciting new documentary!!

Visual artist, videographer and film-maker Linda Rae Dornan, of Sackville, New Brunswick, is creating a wonderful new documentary, “Walking With EB.” She and Canadian sporano Suzie LeBlanc spent time on the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland in 2008 re-tracing Elizabeth Bishop’s walking tour of 1932.

Linda has reached the post-production stage and is doing a crowd-source fund-raising campaign on Indigogo. You can find out more about this campaign and about Linda’s delightful, funny, moving, inspiring (I have seen the draft version) documentary if you click on the link below.
